What's New in Vodou
By Vodou Team
Vodou 1.54.10 — Check Bookmarks progress bar
Check Bookmarks now shows a progress bar as it works and clearly reports when the scan is complete, with how many bookmarks failed. While a scan runs, Stop scan is the only button you can use; the rest come back when it finishes or you stop it.
Vodou 1.54.9 — a leaner Docker image
The msteier/vodou image no longer installs GTK 3 or CUPS. Only two optional Qt plugins could use them (a GNOME desktop theme and printer support), and Vodou loads neither. Docker Scout's findings dropped to 5 High / 7 Medium / 66 Low, still with nothing fixable; the rest are in core Debian libraries awaiting upstream fixes. The Windows download is unchanged at 1.54.8.
Vodou 1.54.8 — AI bookmark review removed
Review with local AI is gone from Manage bookmarks: it was slow, needed Ollama, and its verdicts were only suggestions. Check Bookmarks still finds broken links with plain HTTP checks and no AI. The rest of Local AI is unchanged.
Vodou 1.54.7 — Docker image hardening
The msteier/vodou image no longer ships pip (even the newest pip bundles copies of msgpack and setuptools with known High-severity issues), and its window manager is now evilwm instead of fluxbox, which dropped three unused image decoders. Docker Scout's findings went from 13 High / 19 Medium / 102 Low to 5 High / 14 Medium / 85 Low, with nothing fixable left; the rest are in core Debian libraries awaiting upstream fixes. In the browser-tab version, move Vodou's window with Alt+drag.
Vodou 1.54.6 — bookmark-check crash fix
Check Bookmarks could intermittently close the whole browser on Windows (and abort the scan on Linux) in versions 1.54.1 to 1.54.5. If you use it, update. The Qt & WebEngine updater now also shows the Chromium security-patch version.
Vodou 1.54.5 — Python 3.14 image, engine patch level
About Vodou now shows two Chromium numbers: the base version (the web features Vodou has) and the security-patch level (the Chrome release whose security fixes Qt has backported). Compare the second one with Chrome when judging how current the engine is. The Docker image moved to Python 3.14.
Vodou 1.54.2 — security and reliability fixes
Fixes from a full review of the code, including a deceptive-site warning that could stay disabled for the rest of a tab, a Safe Browsing cache problem, confirmation before saving passwords on shared-suffix domains like *.github.io, and owner-only permissions for the vault file on Windows.
Vodou 1.54.0 and 1.54.1 — bookmark tools and web search in chat
Check Bookmarks finds broken links without needing any AI model. (These releases also added an AI bookmark review, Review with local AI; it has since been removed, since Check Bookmarks covers the useful part.) Local AI chat gained an optional Search web toggle that sends only your latest question through SearXNG; the model still runs on your machine.
Vodou 1.53.0 — a safer way to update the engine
A dedicated Qt & WebEngine updater moves Qt, PyQt6, and the Chromium engine together as one compatible set, backs up the current versions first, and rolls back automatically if anything goes wrong.
Downloads are on the Download page. The exact version and engine details of any install are always in ☰ → Help → About Vodou…, and the full history is public on GitHub.
